Spaghetti and meatballs in a dutch oven

  • Author: Chef Kai
  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

• 1 lb ground beef or turkey
• ½ cup breadcrumbs
• ¼ cup grated Parmesan
• 1 egg
• 2 garlic cloves, minced
• 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
• Salt and black pepper, to taste
• 1 small onion, diced
• 2 cups crushed tomatoes
• 2 tbsp tomato paste
• 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
• 1 tsp Italian seasoning
• 1 tsp sugar
• ¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
• 12 oz dry spaghetti

Instructions

1️⃣ Build the sauce: Sauté onion and garlic in olive oil. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, broth, Italian seasoning, sugar, and red pepper flakes. Season with salt and pepper, then simmer.
2️⃣ Prepare and add the meatballs: Mix meatball ingredients in a bowl, roll into 1 ½-inch balls, and place them in the simmering sauce. Cover and cook for 20–25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
3️⃣ Cook the spaghetti: Add spaghetti directly to the Dutch oven, ensuring it’s submerged. Add more broth if needed. Cover and simmer for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally.
4️⃣ Finish and serve: Let rest for 5 minutes. Garnish with Parmesan and fresh basil or parsley. Serve warm straight from the pot.

Notes

Pro oh là là tip: For extra richness, stir in a splash of heavy cream or a dollop of ricotta before serving!
